On May 6, 2008 at 1:00 PM NCBB.net E-mail users will be upgraded to a new mail server. This change will effect the way you access your email. There will be intermittent problems with the email from 1:00 PM to 5:00PM on May 6th. Please follow the steps below, and feel free to call for assistance. Logging In to the New Email System: Whether you use the webmail login at http://mail.ncbb.net, or check your email through an email program on your computer (Outlook, etc.), the username and password will change. Previously, email usernames on the NCBB system were the ‘first part’ of the email address: Everything before the ‘@’ symbol, like "example". 1) On the new system, the username will be the entire email address like example@ncbb.net
2) All passwords will be set to a default of ncbb1234
3) Additionally, you will need to check the box next to “My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication” in your email program.
We strongly recommend that you log in through the webmail interface at http://mail.ncbb.net and change the password to something other than the default, for obvious security reasons. We apologize for this inconvenience: There simply is no way to extract the passwords as they exist from the present email system.
Turning On Outgoing Server Authentication Please note: This is a ‘one time’ set-up. Once you’ve completed the few steps below, your email program will remember the new settings. However, if you have more than one NCBB email account, you will need to repeat the procedure for each individual account.
In Microsoft Outlook 2000 & Outlook Express: Start Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express. From the menu bar at the top of the program, select Tools, then Accounts. Click once on the appropriate account from the Mail tab. Select Properties. From the account properties dialog box, choose the Servers tab. Put a check in the box for "My server requires authentication". Click on the "Settings" button. In the 'Outgoing Mail Server' dialog box, make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected. Press "OK". Back at the "Properties", click "Apply", then "OK". Click "OK" to close out of all dialog boxes.
In Newer Versions of Outlook From the menu bar at the top of the program, select Tools, then E-Mail Accounts. Click Next to “View or Change Existing Accounts.” Click on your NCBB mail account and then select “Change.” Click on the “More Settings” button. Click on the “Outgoing Server” tab. Check the box next to “My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication.” Make sure that “Use Same Settings as My Incoming Mail Server” is selected in the list below. Click “OK” to close the box. Click on “Next” and then “Finish” to complete the process.
In Eudora: Open Eudora, pull down the Tools menu and select "Options..." to display the Options window. Select the "Getting Started" category on the left-hand side. Select the "Allow authentication" checkbox and click "OK.”
In Apple Mail: Open Apple Mail. Click on the "Mail" menu in the top menu bar. Click on Preferences, Click on Accounts. Click on the account that you want to modify. Click on Account Information. Click on the "Server Settings..." button. In the pulldown list next to "Authentication:", select "Password". Enter your username and email password (the same ones you use to retrieve your email). Click on OK. Close the Preferences window by clicking on the X in the upper left hand corner of the window.
